Laura A. Foster, Ph.D.

Postdoctoral Resident

Dr Laura FosterDr. Foster is a postdoctoral resident at Health Psych Maine. She specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and empirically-based treatments for anxiety, trauma, depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. In addition to CBT, she integrates mindfulness and acceptance-based strategies from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Dr. Foster also provides specific treatments such as exposure therapy and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for obsessive-compulsive and anxiety-related disorders, and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for trauma/PTSD.

Dr. Foster received her doctorate from the University of Maine in the dual Developmental-Clinical Psychology program, specializing in developmental psychology across the lifespan. She completed her internship at WellSpan Philhaven CBT providing evidence-based intervention to youth and adults in Pennsylvania. She returned to Health Psych Maine to complete her postdoctoral residency under the supervision of Dr. David Meyer, clinical director and owner of Health Psych Maine.

Dr. Foster has co-authored a book about the treatment of depression in childhood and adolescence, and authored chapters related to social skills and adjustment across the lifespan. She has also published articles and presented her research at international conferences on the topics of social anxiety and rejection. Throughout her training, Dr. Foster has provided assessment and therapy services to communities across Maine. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, kayaking, knitting, and gardening.
