Mark Kmen, LCSW

Mark KmenMark Kmen is a licensed certified social worker who brings over 30 years of clinical experience to the practice.  He has worked in a variety of inpatient and outpatient mental health settings including private practice.  Mark utilizes evidenced based Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) treatments including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, and other mental health challenges.   

Mark received his B.A. in Psychology from S.U.N.Y. Plattsburgh in 1981 and Masters of Social Work Degree from S.U.N.Y. Albany in 1986.  Mark provides services at Health Psych Maine in a part-time capacity while he works full-time at the Togus VA Medical Center, where he is currently the Coordinator of Spinal Cord Injury, ALS, and Polytrauma clinics.  Prior to this role, he served as the facility Local Recovery Coordinator, with a focus on helping transform the Togus VA Mental Health treatment system to incorporate a philosophy of Recovery.  Duties in this role included providing inpatient social work services and being the Team Leader of the Integrated Mental Health/Primary Care team where Mark provided brief/short term interventions in a primary care setting.  

Mark is originally from Saratoga Springs, New York and has lived in Maine for nearly 20 years together with his wife and two children.  In addition to helping others, Mark has worked in a variety of landscaping positions in New York and Maine, including owning and operating his own business, Kmendable Landscaping.  Mark is also passionate about music and is a trumpet player for the Kennebec Performing Arts Company.
