Attendance & Scheduling

For your treatment to be successful, it will call for an active effort on your part.  We will work very hard to assist you in improving your situation as much as possible.  In order to ensure success, however, you will need to work on cognitive and behavioral homework assignments.

No-show and short-notice cancellations

  1. Attendance at your appointments is very important for treatment consistency and eventual success.
  2. In addition, there are other individuals waiting for an appointment. If you provide at least 24 hours notice for a cancellation, this allows adequate time to offer that time slot to someone in need.
  3. If you do need to cancel, please be courteous and provide at least 24 hours notice so that we can use that time slot for someone else in need.
  4. The voicemail system takes calls 24 hours per day, 7 days per week (872-5800).
  5. If you would like to EMAIL your cancellation please send to:
  6. If you cancel short-notice or do not show up:
    • There will be a charge of $50, which needs to be paid before the next session.
    • You may be discharged from services at Health Psych Maine for 2 no-shows or short-notice cancellations.

I understand and accept responsibility for my attendance and for giving at least 24 hour notice if I do need to cancel.

Other Scheduling Information

  1. Sessions are generally 45 minutes, usually beginning on the hour and ending 45 minutes after the hour. This allows your psychologist/clinician time to write a treatment note.
  2. Try to arrive 5-10 minutes before your scheduled appointment to allow for time to check in.
  3. You can expect your psychologist to be on time unless another clinical situation demands his/her attention.
  4. Depending on the treatment focus, most sessions are active, and may follow a procedure, but don’t be afraid to ask for general discussion and counseling.
  5. Scheduling: in order to allow for consistency of appointments, our support staff may schedule you ahead for several weeks because the appointment slots fill up. With advance notice, those slots can be changed or cancelled.  Many of our clients finish treatment in 8-16 sessions, though this varies depending on the situation.
  6. If you have a preferred time for your appointments, let us know. Schedule several weeks ahead of time since your psychologist’s schedule may fill up.
